We broke out the torque wrench and some sockets and went to town. All was going well until we got back to the driver side, frame end, lower control arm bolt. With the torque wrench set to 130 ft. lbs, Jake put the wrench on the nut while I held the head of the bolt with another wrench. He proceeded to torque the bolt. Remove the nuts on the lower control arm, and the strut rod. Remove the clip that holds the torsion bar in at the cross member. Pry back on the lower control arm. It should push out the torsion bar. Then repair the cross member. Make sure that the torsion bar mount is in exactly the right place. Including the clocking. Pried the two little side walls out just a hair, and the control arm pried right out. For re-assembly, we assembled the ball joint and control arm fittings first, and then used a ratchet strap to pull the control arm in close enough to get the bolt holes lined up. You should be able to turn the strut fairly freely so.

The "fork" which connects the strut to the lower control arm has a bushing that seizes a lot. as well as the compliance bushing. the rearward bushing is rare but it happens.

16. On all vehicles, loosen, remove and discard stabilizer link arm to lower wishbone-securing nut (Illustration 5). (Hold ball joint stud to stop rotation.) 17. Reposition link arm away from lower wishbone. ILLUSTRATION 5 18. Loosen and remove front shock absorber to lower wishbone-securing bolt. Discard the nut (Illustration 6). Then, if you can open and close a vise-grip around the surface of the sleeve, that might be enough to free it up and also counter the torque on the bolt. PB Blaster or LW might also help that process as well. Or you could heat the sleeve to free it up that way.

This is a DIY fix since there is only one bolt at each corner that needs to be adjusted. The Height Sensor Bracket has a Calibration adjustment on the Control Arm pivot. It is basically a Nut and Bolt on a vertical Slotted Hole, joining the arm and the bracket. Suspension of the car fully lowered.

Grasp the bolt head, move it fully forward, and then turn it over on the bench so that the BCG is balancing on its head. If the bolt stays in place without budging, great. But if the bolt head starts sliding down, you should try replacing the gas rings. That's the most basic, inexpensive fix.

The offset taper on the end of the bolt is to ensure the nut is properly aligned before thread engagement. The cage nut now freely spins inside the cage, so the cage is what I thought was a sheet metal box. I should be able to break the cage loose, slide the bolt up and get an open end on the nut. if you aren't saving the bolt, you can grind/cut the head off and beat it through the other way, if you can get a better swing from that side. Man, these are no fun! What usually happens is that the whole sleeve breaks loose from the old rubber, and the whole sleeve and bolt turn in unison when you hammer away with the impact.

Pry the cut mark down to separate it further. Then cut off the rubber bushing with pliers and a razor blade. Heat the sleeve up with a blow torch. When the bolt is cherry red, tap the bolt with a hammer to break it free from the sleeve. If it's cherry red and doesn't want to loosen, cut the sleeve off with a cutting wheel.

If your breaker bars not doing it I usually slide my jack pole over it for extra leverage. Also you might want to try some heat before you put that much tension on the bolt and snap the head off.

Use a wrench or vice grips to hold one of the nuts tight. Then torque the other nut with a wrench. As the socket pushes the bushing, the opposite socket acts as a brace, pressing up against the housing essentially pressing the bushing into the housing. After a few minutes, the bushing was entirely in the housing, all without a press. Buy 1968-1982 Corvette Lower Control Arms online at Zip. All was going well until we got back to the driver side, frame end, lower control arm bolt. With the torque wrench set to 130 ft. lbs, Jake put the wrench on the nut while I held the head of the bolt with another wrench. He proceeded to torque the bolt. It turned, and it turned, and it turned. I could clearly see that the nut (with a shoulder.
